i like this pattern i painted. it’s like a wall paper which gives me a sense of lethargic atmosphere yet a little relaxing due to the soft tone and colors. the milky set of colours give a little victorian wallpaper kinda feel.
(the above comment is subjective.)
this is in the international paper ration.
too light.
another painting with reference to a photo of a rose.
took a long time completing this picture. it is still a little out of proportion. adding blue and green to darken the tones as shadows is nothing new and i have slowly get use to it. however, i have yet to get hole of the skills. as can be seen in the painting, brushes are not blended properly, and some parts look really weird, especially for the shadowed area in the middle of the rose. i think i should not have used such concentrated paints on watercolour paper.
p.s(black background is not the original version. it is replace using photoshop.
hello. i shall post my first post. and this is a horrible way to start.
this was a drawing i did in art last year. hmm. it is A3 in size and i took three hour to rush it through. but it was like the third piece i did. if you just ‘woah’ that i did three full painting. nope . i’m not that qiang. the three previous pieces are merely re-painting of her face only. i lost the original copy of the potrait and the three faces too. but ultimately, painting this was really eyes straining. i actually felt really accomplished then..=.=
anyway, some may think that there is something wrong with the proportion of waist. but it is not! really. ok maybe a little. but can you imagine that there is laces falling from the chest? yupp, something like that.
apart from these, i am still uncomfortable with the use of conplementary colours to darken tones. taking the face as an example, although i had to try a couple of times before attempting the final piece, i could not complete it without having the face feeling bashed up. using shadings and shadow to outline facial features was certainly not an easy task. therefore, there was a sense of accomplishment upon completing this assignment though it is far from a good painting.
Medium: Pastel – Approx. size: A6 – Approx date: 2007
this was my first time messing with pastel. no kidding. it was a mess. this was an attempt to try how different pastel colours could be blended together. unfortunately, i did not keep the pastel drawing on plants which i did after trying this out. in fact, the pastel was only applied after i painted a light mint green watercolour background.
although the ‘phantom’ is seen to be done with three coloured pastel, i had use nearly ten colours. Namely dark ocean blue, light sky blue, yello, moss green, mint green and brown. pastel does not attached to the surface of the paper we use. therefore, i had to be really careful and stand at a distance when i was doing the appro. A3 plant drawing.
but it was really fun being dirty! i bet xinyun wouldnt agree more!

too dark. like i’m in the forest.
