design for class notice board.

this was a design for the interclass Chinese New Year decoration competition. the theme was to use recycle materials, a every common theme these days.

at the beginning, no one actually volunteered to do it, giving the excuse that there were three art students in our class, of which i thought to be ridiculous and decided to boycott by not helping at all. however, in the morning of judging day, my dearest form teacher stepped in. i believe that she saw the problem of citizens of seven being dependent of others, and having a crutch mentality, pushing the responsibility to three poor members of society who have the bad attitude of not sacrificing for the community.

anyway, she stepped in an gave us a scolding. haha. i know i was wrong to boycott, but i was smiling in my heart throughout the process of mass soul searching. she asked  those who were responsible for the decoration to stand. no one reacted. finally, after a few calls, i, together with a couple of friend(monitresses and ppl in art) stand up. then i turned to my table partners to stand too. the point was to let everyone stand up cos everyone was responsible.(like duhh).

wahaha. i felt just in the mist of solemnity. i was motivated as a tribute to my FT. after which, i started to do my work of decorating the front notice board. when i was deperate for a proper background, there is no wallpaper to begin with, and nothing to put up as background. then, i saw a pile of unwanted newspaper. (which show that wed’s reading news paper day is not yet a success,) i just chose the duller pictureless pages to place on boards as background. to make the boards have some CNY atmosphere, a thick red border pinned using red packets while the design on the top left hand corner is shaped like the corners of Chinese styled windows.  Chip (or is it Dale?) was from the original design of noticeboard. while the nuts were from the original background, which did not even cover the whole noticeboard. so our class helped in drawing and cutting out the different shape and sizes of nuts to suit Chip/Dale. Red borders are also use to frame the notices on the boards to emphasise each annoucements.

Lastly, an effort was made to let Chip/Dale look as if it was ready for CNY by adding a traditional chinese hat using redpackets once again.

i like the contrast between the background and the borders which does not give a strong bright feel, which is what we get commonly when we use a one coloured colour paper for notice boards. also, the boxes for announcement is arranged in an up and down manner where the last one is smaller. this is little unconventional in notice boards where papers should be aligned proper to maximise space. in this case, announcement will be placed on top of each other to keep things neat and tidy.

ultimately, i like the concept and layout of this design and i will use them in future on my own noticeboards. XD
